The Sign Language Interpreting in Education is a 64 credit program completed over the course of two years where individuals will earn their Associate Degree upon completion. This program is for individuals who are curious lifelong learners, who have a love for languages, are comfortable working before large and small audiences, and enjoy social interaction. Individuals will learn the interpreting skills to work with Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf/Blind students in the K-12 academic setting.
You will have the opportunity to observe working sign language interpreters and participate in local Deaf and Hard of Hearing events. Towards the end of the program, individuals will complete a practicum or internship which will provide real world working experience in a variety of educational settings under the supervision of a skilled licensed/certified interpreter. Our goal is for students to have the knowledge and skills needed to complete the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment to obtain a license.
