WSPEI Services and Support
The Wisconsin Statewide Parent-Educator Initiative (WSPEI) is a statewide program funded by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. It aims to help families and educators form positive working relationships, fostering shared decision-making and improving outcomes for students with IEPs. Through structured frameworks and coaching, CESA WSPEI Family-School Partnership Coordinators assist district and school staff in implementing sustainable strategies that create a collaborative and supportive school culture. These strategies help educators build strong relationships and foster an environment of respect and belonging.
WSPEI Vision: Each and every family and school community will have the beliefs, capabilities, connections, and confidence to communicate effectively, meaningfully engage, and partner to improve systems that ensure student success in all aspects of their lives.
WSPEI Mission: Develop Strong Relationships - Build Effective Partnerships
Universal Support (Accessible to ALL districts):
Universal support is available to all families and district staff in each CESA region. The initiative helps strengthen the skills of both families and educators to communicate and collaborate effectively. WSPEI also works to improve family engagement practices in districts, broadening the participation of families in the education of students with disabilities.
This includes:
-
Family information, support, and collaboration at both the statewide and CESA levels for families, educators, agency personnel, and others
-
Strategies to improve family engagement, aiming to enhance the beliefs, capabilities, connections, and confidence of both families and educators
-
Support for the Indicator 8 Family Engagement Survey implementation, data collection, and analysis to guide family engagement planning
-
Family-School Visit training, guidance, and support
-
District Family Engagement Liaison (DFEL) training and support to build family capacity
-
Family, Youth, and Community Network at the state and regional levels to provide comprehensive support for families
Targeted & Intensive Supports (Available to districts with federal identifications):
In addition to universal support, districts with federal identifications under ESSA and/or IDEA, which are focused on continuous improvement in family and community engagement, can access further assistance.
These supports include:
-
Family Engagement and Authentic Partnerships planning
-
Presentations tailored to the needs of families, educators, and professionals in districts
-
Technical assistance and coaching focused on integrating family engagement into continuous improvement planning efforts
